July Kasukabe

Recently in the Wednesday morning classes in Kasukabe we have been focusing on basic movements with weapons. Using long objects as tools make it easier to see where your alignment and timing is off.  Also due to the increased weight of the ken or jo you end up using more shoulder strength than without. The hints are obvious and help you concentrate on trying to relax.

On Saturday, following the kids tests, the adults went through some behind the back techniques. We practiced ushiro ryote mochi ikkajo osae ni, ushiro ryote mochi sankajo osae ni. The points for both were the same - the initial movement forward, raising up, and circling around. The latter is just the same as any other ikkajo or sankajo. Don`t think too much.

Kasukabe 4/30

For the kids at Kasukabe (and at all the Meiryukan clubs) it was back through all the basics since day #1

Sometimes we get fixed on learning new techniques and forget to review things from the past. Wouldn`t that be such a waste to have put all that time and effort into learning it correctly, just to forget it after getting your new belt...

As for adults, we are still in the midst of our taiken kai. If interested, send an email!

After a lengthy hiriki no yosei ichi, ni we went into a few techniques.

Kasukabe trial classes have begun!

Wednesday morning in Kasukabe we went through a whole bunch of brown belt techniques.

ushiro waza ryote mochi ikkajo osae 1,2  ushiro waza ryote mochi sankajo osae 1,2 suwari waza katate mochi sokumen iriminage 1,2  suwari waza kata mochi sokumen iriminage 1,2

A fast paced class to work up a nice sweat in this beautiful weather.

On Saturday the 9th, following a kids class full of jiyu waza the adults practiced a hard one - yokomen uchi sankajo osae ni.

We did the technique both standing and seated, mainly focusing on the cutting down part. Keeping our hips low and body weight riding on uke. A long technique with a lot of points to teach us.

This past Saturday was our first day of trial lessons. We had 2 ladies come join our training. After going through back breakfalls and basic pivoting movements we worked on ryote mochi tenchinage ni. The general members then followed up with suwari waza ryote mochi tenchinage ichi while our guests went into the basics - kamae, seiza-ho etc. We finished the class playing with the ikkajo pin. Taikenkai continues this Wednesday!

Spring tests in Kasukabe

On Saturday, March 26th we held the kids spring tests at the Kasukabe budokan.

To the left, our kindergarten student tested for his chukyu (mid level). It was his first test with a technique - awesome zanshin!

The next photo is from the kids 7th kyu test. Both these little guys haven`t tested in awhle due to schedule problems, injuries etc. They were more than ready to crush it this time around. Best test of the day in my opinion!

Here we have the 6th kyu test. Not only 3 new techniques, but also the big challenge of having to remember kihon dosa renzoku. Here at Meiryukan each person goes up one by one, not as a group. No following along, no hints, all  on you and how much time and effort you put in to practicing.

The last test of the day was for 2nd kyu. These three seniors have been working hard. Training not only once or twice a week at their home dojo, but also making trips here and there to get in some extra classes. Difficult techniques, and done well. Great job ladies!
The adults were back to regular training. And with visitors from both the Noda and Nagareyama club we went right into things.

Warmed up with ikkajonage in groups. Relaxed and controlled. Firm grip, but soft uke.

Yoshinkan Aikido is all about posture. We spent about 15 mins. on hip alignment, foot position, angles and width, backbone and neck.

Then into shomen uchi yonkajo osae ni (tachi, suwari), suwari waza katate mochi nikajo osae ni, shomen uchi hijiate kokyunage
